Welcome to The Green and White Website

Another school year is almost at an end. What an action-packed time it has been in the world of Gaelic Games in Limerick primary schools.

In this, our Summer issue, you can read about South Limerick’s third consecutive victory in the Mackey Cup. This year, Limerick City went toe-to-toe with South Limerick before the South clinched victory after extra time. West Limerick regained the Eithne Neville Cup and Eithne herself was present in the Gaelic Grounds to present the trophy to Lucy O Brien, the West captain.

January and February were devoted to Indoor Hurling and Indoor Camogie. In March and April, the action moved outdoors and the INTO Mini Sevens took centre stage. Some new names, such as Caherelly NS, won county honours while familiar names like Doon CBS also rejoined the ranks of winners.

This year sees a new ‘round robin’ format in Munster hurling and there is a Primary Game at every Munster senior football and hurling game. The boys and girls taking part will share the limelight with their heroes on the biggest sporting occasions in Munster.

In this issue, we look at the career of Mick Mackey. Books have been written about the deeds of the man from Castleconnell but we try to give you a flavour of the glamour and star quality he brought to the Golden Age of Limerick hurling.

Is there another Golden Age around the corner for Limerick hurling? Limerick have won two Under 21 titles in three years. Our fervent hope is that underage success can develop into silverware at senior level.

Let’s hope that our Autumn issue of The Green and White has new heroes to emulate the feats of Mick Mackey and his teammates.
