Back Issues
Welcome to The Green and White Website
Welcome to another jam-packed issue of The Green and White Magazine. As usual, we have good news stories galore to share with you– and lots of Cumann na mBunscol stars, inter-county stars and unsung heroes to read about in the latest issue of The G&W, Limerick’s top-selling sports magazine.
NFL & Harty Cup Success
We celebrate Limerick’s magnificent win in the National Football League final and chat with James Ryan and John Galvin, two of our Croke Park heroes. This was Limerick football’s first national championship success in114 years. Ardscoil Ris bridged a shorter gap (17 years, Limerick-wise) when they captured the Harty Cup after one of the most thrilling campaigns in the long and distinguished history of that competition. Ardscoil selector, Niall Moran gives our readers a few insights into Ardscoil’s success story.
Mackey Cup 2010
The City went close to making it a Sarsfield/Mackey double this year but they lost out to a fine South Limerick team in one of the most exciting finals in years. Many of the lads who featured in this year’s series will surely go on to star in the green and white of Limerick in years to come. Read all about it in this issue.
The Primary Game & Other Games
In June 2010, 44 boys and girls had the honour of playing for Limerick for the first time when they lined out in the Primary Game at venues throughout the province. We were at the launch of this year’s Irish Daily Star Sunday Primary Game series (see Page 8). We also focus on the INTO Mini 7’s county finals, the Celtic Image Shield and other GAA activities within Limerick’s 4 divisions, including the Limerick City Primary Handball finals.
Stars
The late, great Ger McDonnell, an unsung Limerick hero and a slew of inter-county hurling and football stars also get the G&W treatment in this issue. It is our fervent hope that these magnificent characters will inspire our readers to emulate them in the weeks, months and years ahead... Thanks to Shane O’Neill, Declan Bromell, Liam Dillon, Dave Bulfin, Br. J.L. Dormer, Henry Martin, Ger Downes, Siobhán Noonan, Colette O’Grady and all who helped us compile this term’s issue.
Next Time
After the Summer Holidays we’ll look back at how our Cumann na mBunscol footballers, camogie players and hurlers got on in the Primary Game series. We’ll also have reviews of the Leader Cup, the Eithne Neville Shield and each Division’s hurling and camogie championships. All that—and lots more besides! Be sure to order your copy of G&W No. 43 now, either through a school, a club (or a major magazine/bookseller, such as Eason’s) near you!
